Barbecue Isn’t Always Done on a Grill
When we speak of barbecue, we automatically think of an outdoor grill.
Not always. You can do some succulent barbecue indoors in a crock pot or in the oven, maybe a dutch oven.
OK - I made barbecue wings for a super bowl party. I make them every year and they are always a hit and I’ll give you my recipe but . . .
I do them in the oven. C’mon. Barbecue wings. I ain’t messing with them on a grill unless I’m just cooking for me and my wife. So - here’s how to do them.
I use Hunt’s Honey Mustard Barbecue Sauce as my base, but you can use any you want. But I like to make the sauce my own.
A bottle of barbecue sauce
About a cup of water
Pepper to taste (I like to use a lot)
Italian seasoning or any seasoning mix
A pinch of salt
Garlic powder - 1 tablespoon
Onion powder - 1 tablespoon
Spicy Mustard - about a quarter cup
Accent - yep
OK. I mix the ingredients thoroughly in a bowl. I preheat the oven to 300 degrees. Using a baking dish - size as needed to hold the wings - I spray it with Pam - then brush the barbecue mixture onto the bottom. This helps prevent the wings from sticking.
Now I begin to put wings in the sauce and coat them completely, putting them into the dish. Once I’ve added all the wings, I pour the rest of the sauce over the wings. You will want a good coating so that the wings are soaking in the sauce.
Put them in the oven for about 2 hours. Then turn up the heat to about 400 degrees for maybe a half hour. This will carmelize the top of the wings and give them a nice brown look. I take my dish directly from the oven and put in in a special covering my dad bought me long ago that keeps them warm so we can transport them.
I haven’t brought home leftovers yet. My nephew was raving that he couldn’t hold and bite the wings because the meat was falling off the bones.
