Grilling Steak

This ever happened to you? You grill a steak to perfection but it just doesn’t taste as good as the steak you got at the steak house?

Relax. If you grill the steak and the inside is red, or however you like it (but there should be some red or the steak will be on the dry side and a little tough), and the taste and tenderness is not what you expected, it very definitely could be the steak itself.

Listen – the good steak houses use a very good tender cut of steak. It also allows for some error in cooking. The steaks you get at the super market are not usually up to that standard.

When you want a real good steak and are willing to pay extra to get it, I recommend going to a butcher shop and talking to the butcher. Tell him what you are looking for. Don’t be afraid to let him know you don’t want to spend a heck of a lot but don’t look to be cheap.

The butcher can be your best friend when it comes to grilling. Take advantage of him.

About Bob Blick

Although I currently have over a dozen websites online, I started up realmencooking.com to share my passion and knowledge for barbecuing. I want this to be a fun and informative site and plan to write basically the way I talk.

Buying from a butcher shop is a bit pricey,I buy from kroger’s I get porterhouse&ribeyes on special at a reasonable price. As for steak houses, the chains buy from one of a half doz.venders who soak them in tenderziers,so unless you dine at a 5 Star steak house, your advice is all wet,no offence.

Soak the hickory chips thoroughly, then allow them to sit for awhile so they are not dripping. Place in aluminum foil and poke some holes in the foil. Set on the grate ahead of time on the heat until the smoke begins appearing, then add your meat and cook as usual.

As to the comment on buying steaks, the steak houses may have that advantage but you can buy a delicious steak and marinade it or add a rub and get steak house quality on your grill. It is going to cost a bit more and a butcher can be your best friend. You’re going to pay more for that steak at the steak house so endulge. Don’t kid yourself. You can grill a steak every bit as good as they can.
